Fourteen-year-old Mohammed from Gaza is on a mission to be his nation’s first Olympic swimming champion. He is already Gaza's best swimmer, and now he has the opportunity of a lifetime - to go to Germany and train in an Olympic-sized pool with an elite team.
It’s the first time he has been to Europe and he is making the 2,000-mile journey alone. Mohammed has to impress the coach if he is to make the team, and the opposition is fierce. Just as he gets close to the qualifying time he needs, the Covid pandemic hits Germany, closing all the swimming pools.
Away from his team-mateS, and missing his friends and family back home, Mohammed struggles to stay motivated to train. As the virus continues to spread, and borders are closed around the world, Mohammed is stranded in Germany for four months before he finally gets the news that he can go home. In a desperate bid to get back to Gaza, Mohammed must face a three-week trip on his own, taking flights, buses and taxis, and staying in a quarantine facility, to get back to his mum and dad.
Directed by Oscar winner Elena Andreicheva.
